The Livingston County Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention Counsel (DSVPC) was established in 1995 to support the effort of community collaboration to end domestic violence in Livingston County.

The Council is an alliance of individuals, organizations and businesses with the mission to eliminate domestic violence and sexual assault in the lives of residents of Livingston County. The group seeks to accomplish this mission through the changing of attitudes and behaviors by:

  • Increasing public awareness and understanding of domestic violence and sexual assault
  • Encouraging the development and coordination of programs
  • Facilitating the collaborative efforts among its participants for the prevention and elimination of domestic violence and sexual assault
  • Serving as a local clearinghouse of violence and sexual prevention information.
Three major goals were established:

    1. Livingston County will be recognized for a State of the Art
        Response to Domestic Violence
    2. Livingston County will be recognized for a State of the Art
        Response to Sexual Assault
    3. Shelter options will be available for all victims of family violence.
With strategic planning and a coordinated effort, many objectives of the Council have been met and goals achieved.
