The CARE Project (Child Abuse Response Effort) is a multi-disciplinary approach to investigating child abuse cases in Livingston County.
The CARE Project is a LACASA program and a collaborative effort between the agency, the Prosecutor's Office, local law enforcement agencies, the Family Independence Agency and various other human service agencies.
The CARE Project provides service to children who are suspected of being seriously physically abused or sexually abused, and their families. The goals of the project are to minimize the trauma to child victims and their families, reduce the number of duplicative interviews the children must endure and increase the rate of prosecution.
Services provided for families:
- A safe, neutral environment for children to be interviewed regarding the allegations of abuse.
- Information, support and referrals to community services, including therapy and court advocacy.
Services provided for professionals:
- Coordination of team members for joint interviews and team review meetings.
- Interview settings with one way mirrors and tools to assist with investigation.
The CARE Project Coordinator receives referrals from any professional involved in the investigation of child sexual or physical abuse. Referrals should be made at the beginning of their investigation to ensure a team approach and to reduce duplicative interviews.
